$24.00 a qt for manual tranny fluid!!!!

So I am doing a tranny flush on my 99' Tj. So I did a little research on here about what kind of fluid to use. Everyone seemed to have thier own oppinions about what to use. But I noticed a common thread to use 80-90 wt GL-3 gear lube oil. A bunch of people specifically said do not use GL-4 or GL-5 because it eats up syncros. So I went to 3 different auto part stores looking for GL-3 and no one had it. Everyone had GL-4 or GL-5 , so i went to the stealership and they had it for 24 bucks a qt . Thats just sick, who can charge someone 24 bucks a qt of oil and sleep at night. So I was wondering where you guys get your GL-3 tranny fluid?

Thanks Brannon

Take a look over at: Bob Is The Oil Guy and search on AX5 GL3 in the forums .

You'll find a lot of information at that site, so if you think your head hurts now... it'll hurt more later. But if you can help the hurt in the wallet, it'll be worth it.

Take a look at Amsoil and Redline . Both these companies tout no-sulfur lubes.

Brannon, go to the above site, scoll down until you get the transmission types this item is made for, and/or, get the chrysler part number this replaces.

Call you Jeep dealer and get their part number and do a little cross referances.

Hope this helps.

Re: $24.00 a qt for manual tranny fluid!!!!

I had issues when trying to find out what gear oil I needed the first time I changed mine. I got as many diffrent answers as places I asked. I recomend going to a tranny Shop. They might give you the same answer you already have but they may be able to recomend somthing diffrent too.
Good Luck

Re: $24.00 a qt for manual tranny fluid!!!!

I e:mailed both amsoil and redline about which of thier products I can use in the AX-15. Redline wrote me back and said that there MT-90 is both gl3 and gl4 approved. Amsoil hasnt written me back yet so I am going to go with the redline.
Thanks for the help,
Brannon
