Re: mod ?

I'd spend your money in this order: <ul type="square">[*]Full Roll Cage[*]Winch[/list] These two items get you out of trouble when you most need to get out of trouble!

Re: mod ?

Cage Because the life of you and your passensgers is the most important...
On-board air because you break tires more than metal
Welder because some things do break...
Winch can be handy but if you wheel with friends you can get by without it...
And then the triler to carry out what the above could not fix what ails the jeep.

Re: mod ?

What's a range of cost for a full cage if I have a certified welder who works out of his garage on the side do it for me?

I was thinking cage first also...then probably winch...then air then welder...

any more feedback is great!

Thanks

http://www.tennesseeoffroad.com/cata...?cPath=418_396

thats an unwelded kit.... for $280....to have it welded profesionally might run you a few hundred more.....not sure of the going rate on welders....

other mfgrs have kits for similar prices....i think poison spyder has some

Re: mod ?

Do those weld in cage kits tie into the frame, or just the body?

I looked at the one spyder has and they looked pretty cool...

First, if you are going to spend the money for a real cage, buy one. Don't buy something "based on" that piece of crap that comes with a jeep. Cut it open and it's not much better than rolled sheet metal. You are only talking one more hoop or so and you will have a complete honest to god roll cage. I had mine done professionally out of 2" .120 seamless dom tig welded and it cost me $900. You'd still have room for a winch and if you don't mind doing the junk yard shuffle and your own install, room for the OBA as well. I was going to do my cage the "based on" way until I cut into the factory bar and then decided no way. It would be like building a nice house on a mud brick foundation. It's one of those things that can be done, but it doesn't mean you should.

Re: mod ?

that's a good point not basing it on the existing roll bar....i always forget those little things...

So you think I can get a cage built for under $1000?

I was thinking more like $1500...

That makes me optomistic

Re: mod ?

I had a local NHRA certified shop build the cage in my Jeep based upon my design. They did tweak the design in a few spots to make it better.

The shop had over 50 hours of shop time into the cage + tubing. They really under estimated the complexity of the cage and install. They held to the price quoted but did say that if a friend wanted a cage to tell them $2400...

I attached an old picture of the cage for reference.
