Poor Man\'s Beefy Motor Mounts - pics

Well I decided to try to go ahead and make my own version of the absurdly expensive aftermarket "Bomb Proof" motor mounts. My 360 was just torking the old mounts too much for my comfort.

I got the cross tubes, bushings and bolts from MORE, and the square tube (.20 wall) and flat steel (.25) from my local machine works. They notched the sqaure tube for me and I cut the flat.

The square tube is going to be welded to the triangular piece of flat which will bolt to the block. There will be two "ears" welded to the rectangular piece of flat which will bolt to the frame. This will place the bushing down by the frame and far away from any heat sources.

My welds turned out pretty good. Nice to be able to "see" the penetration when welding these things.

I'll update when I get some more done, I still need to do some drilling and a bit more welding. Drilling the .25 is a pita.

Where's my pic????

Oh well, Here's the link...

Drilling would probably be easier if my bit weren't so dull. Got a nice new cobalt bit and it ate right through

So I got the engine half of the driver's side done, but the batteries in the digital pooped so I'll get the pic later.

Ohe yeah, drilling steel, welding and grinding should not be done in shorts and flip flops
