Anyone in/near Portland, OR?

I just scheduled some training in Portland for Oct. 23-24... thinking I'll end up flying in on Sat/Sun (21/22) and leaving at some point on the Wed (25)...

Would be a shame to waste a trip westward without meeting up with some Jeepers!

I'm not sure if you'd lower your standards enough to hang with a pre-AMC type, (noticed you didn't post this on the Jeepster board), but it's possible I might be available for a hook-up and tour of the Jeep Ranch. I won't have my Oct. schedule for a few days though.

A few weeks earlier and you could have made the "Hood River Hops Fest"!

Dang Randy... thought for a second you were gonna bottle a couple of pints for my consumption later in the month!... until I saw the distance between you & Portland

So, maybe you can recommend some favorite "local" brews I might find in the Portland establishments or stores?

Re: Anyone in/near Portland, OR?

My # 1 favorite is Mirror Pond Pale Ale from Deschutes Brewing Co., (http://www.deschutesbrewery.com). Their seasonal Twilight Ale is still available and reminds me of a cross of Mirror Pond and my second favorite beer, Samuel Adams. Their Cascade Ale is on the lighter side of taste. If you like the dark stuff, their Black Butte Porter is hard to beat.

I read that the original Brewmaster from Deschutes left to go to Full Sail, (http://www.fullsailbrewing.com), which explains why their beers are very good as well.

All in all, most of the Pacific Northwest microbrews are very tasty, although I'd stay away from Hair of the Dog choices, (http://www.hairofthedog.com/beers.html), unless you want to hurt yourself, (some up to 11.5% alcohol content). Here's a couple of links with ratings.

Re: Anyone in/near Portland, OR?

Rock Bottom Brewing, even though it's a chain, has always been one of my favorites. Great porter on Nitro!

http://www.oregonbeer.org/rockbottom.html

A great Olde English style pub with just about any beer you can imagine is the Horse Brass...

http://www.horsebrass.com/

You gotta check out their website. Great atmosphere, great food, and lots of beers! And check out the bottle shop next door! Over 500 different bottled beers for sale. We held our PNW Jeepster Commando meet here 2 years ago.
