steering column !Fixed!

I rebuilt my steering column, but now I can't get the shaft to fall out of the bottom. I have the lockplate snapring in place, so the steering wheel will go on, but now the shaft does not protrude from the tube. Is this shaft collapsible? Any tricks to this, or am I just missing something? Thanks in advance

The shaft in the column is collapsible. On advice from Columns Galore, I put the bottom end in a vice, attached the fitting from the lockplate tool and pulled on the shaft and it pulled out! So, for future reference, when removing the shaft can collapse, leaving you wondering what you did wrong. Hope this helps someone down the road.

Re: steering column

If it's a conventional column, there's nothing in there that's collapsible. If it's a tilt column there might be; I've never had one apart.

Re: steering column

I shouldn't have taken it apart, I certainly feel like it was fine before, but I wanted to check bearings and the condition of everything, before reinstalling, now I am without steering. Oh well, I guess there are worse problems! Thanks
