O/T Vegas Hotels

Son is going down to Vegas with a friend at the end of the month. Can anyone recommend some good - not expensive - hotels? Preferably on the strip (or really close by).

We've stayed at the Luxor and loved it. Great views.

We stayed at the Imperial Palace across the street from Ceasars. Got if for $70 a night. Great location, good casino, nice rooms.

Re: O/T Vegas Hotels

As long as you stay in one of the major hotels you can't go wrong. They are competitive with each other. We go there 2 or 3 times a year and have always had good reasonable rooms.

Walking in without a reservation will cost you about at least 30% more - so even if you are in the hotel already, looking at the front desk, call them, make a reservation by phone! Wait a few minutes and go pick up your key!

I discovered something - there are slot machines everywhere - they all promise to make you a big winner. But out of all the different kinds there's only one that will give you money! All the rest just take it.

There usually are at least one of them in every casino - but you have to search for it. It's easy to recognize once you find it. You can ask someone where it is.

Across the top it says "ATM."

Re: O/T Vegas Hotels

We stayed at the Riviera last time down and liked it alot. I think it was in the 60-70 range. Some of the older strip hotels have lost some tourist atractability and supplement with conferences. Not a huge deal though, just a bunch of folks running around with little badges on... just hope it's not the adult diaper conf. I guess!

Go for thr Barbary (sp?) Coast. 59-69 a night. The rooms are clean and it's on the corner across from Ballys.Baligio and Ceasers. Great views and within walking distance of all the goodies.

Main Strip is good for first timers, but I like the Gold Nugget on Fairmont street(old strip).

Re: O/T Vegas Hotels

I second the Imperial palace for these reasons:

1) Monrail goes through this hotel. Big deal if you don't want to walk a long way.
2) good prices from $80-$160
3) Right in the middle of the strip
4) Safe, clean, quiet

My wife and I always stay at the Imperial. Right now they offering a special. Call casino booking and not the hotel. Nevada deserts would be cool to go jeep'n in.
