Fuel injected or carb.-ed??? I\'m not sure

I just bought a 1988 Jeep Wrangler YJ (replaced my '95 YJ). My '95 was fuel injected with a throtle body. I was always under the understanding that pre '91's were carbed, but this '88 has a air filter box almost like it is a fuel injected.???? I dont understand! It doesn't look like a throtle body on this '88 but it doesn't look like a carb either! I have looked everywhere I could find any information and well haven't found anything helpfu. What is this motor?

The 88 should be carbed but someone may have put on some injection system or changed the aircleaner housing.

Re: Fuel injected or carb.-ed??? I\'m not sure

Well the guy just put a new motor in (565miles on it) and this guy that is selling it to me is the second owner since the swap (only owned it for the summer) and it has a air box on it like the fuel injected one's do (like my '95 did) but the throtle body dont look like a throtle body at all nor does it look like a carb (not any carb or throtle body i have ever seen anyways)

dont buy it till he tells you what has been done to it, if it is a new motor when this owner bought it(and he has a brain), he should have all the paperwork on that motor...if not, perhaps he has a way to contact the original owner so you can ask him?

my view on a vehicle for sale with 565 miles on a "new" motor is generally to walk away, good chance it'll be a cluster "f"

he has the paper work (the guy that put it in) but he is going through a nasty devorce so its in boxes and he is in the middle of moving but it looks and runs very well! (compression is great and equal all through out the plugs) very clean motor with not a drop of life on the outside
