Is my YJ\'s rear track bar necessary?

Thanks to all who answered about being able to drive in front wheel drive.
Now I need to know if any problems should arise without the rear trackbar on my Jeep. I'm installing a Ford 8.8" rear and there is no support mount for my stock YJ track bar. (I'll just make my own and weld it on). Can I drive modestly without this piece or is it crucial for safety?

Re: Is my YJ\'s rear track bar necessary?

Thanks for the post... I need to know this, but for a different reason:

I run my original Dana 35, with a trac loc limited slip. After I installed my lift, I had my local jeepshop weld the extension mount my axle boss. The extension gave me about 3" of track bar lift.... The shop told me that the track bar extension is a HUGE weak point in any suspension. I'd love to do away with it all together. Any ideas out there? What are the ramifications of removing the rear track bar? The front?

I run with no back seat, and only load up to camp/ski, etc... (just have to get the crap there) Some day, I may tow toys... so what will happen? I drift a little more at 75?
Thanks!

As long as you're running a stiffer spring pack than stock, you could probably lose the rear track bar. I have a BDS 2" lift on mine and havn't had a rear track bar or sway bar in a very long time.
In fact another member of my club is exactly the same barless with National Springs 4" springs.

You don't technically need the rear track bar. It was put on there for road stability, granted if you remove it your ride will not be as stable but it is definitely tolerable...to answer your question, no you don't NEED it but it is a personal preference as to how u use your jeep.
