Re: OT $100 digital camera?

Older models on Ebay go cheap.
I got a 2.1 megapix HP under $100 from Officedepot a couple of years ago. It takes nice pix, but it's slow between shots and it's greatest downfall (important to Andy) is it's long shutterlag. That lag between pressing the button and the camera capturing the image can ruin an action shot.

I love my old Canon AE-1 35mm, but digital is the way to go.

Research on cnet, pcworld... etc and decide what you want it to do for you.

Re: OT $100 digital camera?

I have an older HP like Larry, and as he said the "shutter lag" makes action shots nothing but a guessing game. I'm not sure how this function is specified in digital cameras, I'm sure the brighter ones can help with that. They do take great pix though if you find one cheap.
The only thing helpful from me is to ignore digital zoom. That does nothing. Optical zoom is all that matters for getting closer without loosing clarity.

Re: OT $100 digital camera?

I would advise checking some out in the stores then go online to buy. Check sites like cnet for reviews. HP and Olympus have been good to me. Shutter lag is horrible on the DVD and CD-rom media camera (Writes directly t a CDROM in the camera, VS a memeory card). If you want great action shots, look for how many frames per second (FPS) the camera has. You may want to just get a digital movie camera for off-road pics as they are cheap, and you can make a mount on your heep. Just make sure if you get anything > 5x optical, you have image stabilization (IS) else your zoomed pics will be horrible without a tripod. You may want something small, climbing over rocks witha big camera is a pain.

I have had a Casio Ex-S2 for a year, or so, and I love it. It's 2megapixles and works for everything I need it for... even took my youngest daughter's senior pictures with the darn thing... They go pretty cheap on Ebay.

Andy, make sure you get one with a lens cap, or one where the lense retracts and gets covered when you power it off!!

i cant imagine how filty the thing would get otherwise

Andy has $100? Wow.....

For the most part, a digital cam does not wear out....a good deal is a used one from someone who wants to upgrade. But if you can buy a new one, even better.

3 Megapix is more than enough....especially if you just want to document your damage on a daily basis.....

Re: OT $100 digital camera?

I don't know how it happend and am not really wanting to spend money on fixing it, but my Cannon Powershot A70 has some glitch in it where when I turn it on the display is real jumpy and kinda like a TV that's out of tune. I smack it just right and the problem goes away. If I take a picture with it being fuzzy the end result is fuzzy, leading me to believe there's something wrong with where the connection is made between the lens and the optics. I don't know if this is a Cannon problem or a Nick problem.
