Valve train parts questions?

Thanks ahead for all of yur patience as I dig further into my engine. I told ya'll about the lack of intake gaskets yesterday and that was one thing but here is another.

I took off the valve covers and found 3 loose rocker arm bridges and infact one I took out with my fingers. In addition to this one bridge was broke in two. I measured all the spring heights and all are right at 2" +/- 1/16". Is this ok? I cannot find the specks my book refer to.

I've been trying to find the bridges for my jeep but all I find are different than the ones in my 73, 304. The ones I find have the bridge and pivots seperate mine are one piece made of aluminum. Are these after market put in by someone else or are they standard.

The heads come off tomorrow and boy I'm scared of what I'm gonna find there. I can see crud all around one valve stem by looking through one exhaust port. Anything I need to know before I pull the heads other than keep everthing in order of where they go.

Thanks and I really appreciate the patience with all my questions.

Matt

Re: Valve train parts questions?

Next question... Should I hear rattling noises inside the head when I tip a head back and forth.
