Re: happy new year

Well, we made it to another year. For some that's quite an accomplishment...and for others it's just plain dumb luck. For me, it's somewhere in beetween the two.

For my feelings on the new year, I'll just quote my Jeep Creep column for January 2006:

Greetings from the Palouse!

Happy New year! Ain't life great! This last Christmas season was one that let me count my blessings. As I sat at Christmas dinner with my wife's family we looked down the table and saw a whole passel of people that were there waitin' to chow down. Someone mentioned to my 82 year old father-in-law that he was responsible for all those people at the table.

I can hardly wait for when I can look down such a set of tables and see my children, their children, and their children and know that it's been a good life spent. There will be several years of experience giving service to people at that far away table.. a doctor, a dentist, MSW's, Architects, several Educators and Linguists abound four generations of missionaries and men and women of faith working/leading in their local congregations. Each and every one of them affecting their little corner of the world. Were I a prophet I can only guess about the rest of the group, but I do know it will be a great and wonderful family. I look forward to the day.

I take a great pleasure in my little family now, so in twenty to thirty years it will be even greater. Wowsers, the period between Christmas and New Years is a great time for reflection and gratitude for what we have and how to use it.

I sure hope your Christmas was as blessed as mine, and that your new year will be full of hope and joy and what you want it to be.

It sure puts the Jeep in prospective.

As for my Jeep, it's still in it's memorial winter ruts, sitting by the pickup (where are those keys I lost?) waiting for spring, a transmission rebuild, front spring work, and a tour by the grand kids! I can hardly wait for them to get here and visit for a precious few days.

So, I've got my plans made. As my ol' LDS Mission President, J. Stuart Mc Master used to say: "Plan your work and work your plan." It's not a bad saying, so I'll pass it on as a bit of wisdom for the new year to each one of you.

May you enter the New Year with renewed hope, happiness and a running Jeep.

From my house to yours, Happy New Year!
