Cutting Down D44/10 Bolt Caliper Bracket?

The 10 bolt i'm robbing my outer axle parts off of has the disc brake backing plate/ caliper bracket all stamped out of 1 piece of 1/4" steel. Is it safe to cut off the backing plate part so I just have a caliper bracket. I know the 70's waggy 44 I used under my tj had a sheet metal backing plate that was welded to the caliper bracket and i just cut off the sheet metal. Can I make this backing plate I have look like the waggy one?

I would not cut them. But if you do put them on, make sure you get some longer bolts for your spindles

i cut em down allready, they look like a stock waggy caliper bracket. I took pics on a normal camera when it's full i'll have to post em. Why would i need longer spindle bolts? I didn't mess with the area where it mounts to the spindle at all.
