TJ Stuck in 4 High

Just noticed this yesterday. I was driving on a snow covered road and was in 4 high. I turned on to a clear highway and pushed the lever down into 2 high without any problem. However, I could still hear the transfer case whining in 4 high. About 5 miles later I heard a slight clunk and the transfer case whine disappeared, indicating I was in 2 wheel drive. It has never done this before. It usually goes right into 2 wheel drive after a few seconds of pushing the lever. Did the same thing for me today on my way to work. What's your take on this? A vacuum line come off, maybe? It isn't really cold out (20 degrees, maybe), so I doubt that the temperature is a factor. Thanks for any help.

Re: TJ Stuck in 4 High

TJ's don't use vacuum lines for the 4wd sustem at all. I would suspect that the linkage isn't quite right. try adjusting it a bit and see if it helps.

Yep, get under it and adjust the linkage,....mine would get stuck one way or the other every now and then.
