front axle won\'t engage

recently put an 83 motor in my 88 yj,4.2 won't engage into 4wd i noticed that on the pass side as the hoses go back from the axle to the transfer case there is one hose that sticks out of the plastic overwrap about three inches it's not hooked up to anything does this connect to the vacuum gadget at the top center of my firewall? does anyone have a diagram of where all the hoses go? BY THE WAY >> do any of the connections go to the engine to create the vacuum ? none are hooked up to any vacuum lines on mr engine

Or you could get a Posi-Lok and cure the problem forever, and have 2Lo when you need/want it.

Re: front axle won\'t engage

1. Or instead of paying $200, you can go with the $20 version of the posi-lok..
2. http://home.earthlink.net/~stevensch...h/cabledis.htm
3. Which by the way was mentioned in Leve's JeepCreep Q & A..
4. I'm surprised I beat him to the punch..
5. Posted in point form..
6. Good luck whichever option you choose

Re: front axle won\'t engage

On my 88, IIRC the vac disconnect system was connected to Mr. Engine on the top of the intake manifold, and it was a RED line. It connected toward the back of the manifold, near the firewall.

Yes, the system won't work without some vacuum from the engine.

Re: front axle won\'t engage

Only problem with that one is that it can allow water into the axle.

Re: front axle won\'t engage

If you do some searching on other 4x4 sites in their for sale forums, they can be had for much less. I bought my Posi-Lok from one of our club members for $50 and got a spare Dana 30 for free and ditched my original home made version.
