how to remove rear pinion nut?

I need to replace my rear pinion nut seal and I cannot get the pinion nut off. I have tried a blowtorch, breaker bar and voodoo magic. Does anyone have any suggestions? My impact wrench won't do it either. I desperately need to replace this seal so I can drive again. The front axle is a whole other story.

get a cheater bar on a socket thats long enough to hit the ground. push the jeep and let the weight of the jeep break it free.

Re: how to remove rear pinion nut?

I think I had to use a 6' bar.
Don't foget to replace the crush sleeve with a new one.
You will also need a small torque wrench to measure the turning force when you put it back on. Make sure you read the manual....it's not just a simple procedure of replaceing the seal.

That's what I did... only didn't have enough A$$ to "push" it by myself... figured the rotation out, locked in the frontend, and backed up until I heard it let go!

Installed it the same way, figuring the POS "Crapsman" 1/2" retchet would cut loose before I could any real damage...

Wow... some of these replies scare me...

Please take a look at this old thread:
