Mono or twin tube shocks

I did a search and found alot of information on shocks. Unfortunately, none of which really answered my question; which is:

I have a CJ7 on which I will be installing a 2.5" RE lift. Which shock will give me the best ride, a mono tube or twin tube?

I have always purchased the twin tube design shocks, mainly because I was under the impression that the gas charged mono tube shocks would make for a very stiff ride, especially on a light weight vehicle.

Most of my riding is done on the street while my off highway riding is slow in sand/mud. At these speeds and conditions, I don't think foaming or fade would be a concern so would a gas shock be worthwhile?

What are your experiences and do you have any recommendations as far as type or brand? I was going to go with RE's shocks.

All input is appreciated!

Re: Mono or twin tube shocks

I have no personal experience with single tube shocks, so this is worth every penny you pay for it:

There's no reason one type should ride better or worse than the other. Ride is controlled by the valving and fluid. Which doesn't mean that single tube shock customatily aren't valved stiffer. I really don't know.

IMHO the double tube shocks have a distinct advantage on a Jeep because their outer tube can take a ding without affecting performance. Put a dent in a single tube shock and it's toast.

I run rs9000 and rs9000x shocks. You can get just the ride you want that way.
