Re: cant get leak to stop

The chrome cover isn't as thick as the stock metal and probably bowed a bit when you tightened one bolt tighter than the rest. A good bead of sealer on both sides of your gasket will probably stop the leak

Re: cant get leak to stop

the proper way to seal a diff is to pt sealer on both sides of the gasket and to let it set up untill the bead develops a skin then put it on and tighten the bolts evenly (use a torque wrench)

Re: cant get leak to stop

The two guys ahead have the right info. I always use RTV(permatex) when I put the diff cover back on. That is just how i was taught. I've worked on ambulences, chevy, and ford trucks, they all (commercially, that is) get RTV applied to both sides of the NEW gasket. That is what i've always done and have never had a problem. If it does not work, than there is a problem with the new cover.
