Pushrod jumping out

What causes my #1 cyl pushrod to come out from under it's rocker arm?

I think it's done it again. It makes an odd sounding misfire upon start-up and then the cylinder is down. The last time a new push rod was used. I've even backed the timing back to 8 degrees.

It's on the 81 CJ 258.

A bad lifter, spring or rockar arm. Or 6200 RPM.

Exhaust or intake? Not that it makes any difference.

Re: Pushrod jumping out

Maybe you have broken valve spring. Believe me, it is not pretty if a valve spring breaks and allows the valve to fall into the cylinder.

I had my head rebuilt and will be honing out the cylinder tomorrow morning for a new piston. All that from a $5 spring.

Re: Pushrod jumping out

LOL, no high revs here, Jim
It was the intake last time.
Sorry for your luck to, Will.
I guess we'll both have heads under a Jeep hood tomarrow.

Re: Pushrod jumping out

It was the intake pushrod on #4 cyl this time.
Looked Okay, I put it back in. Now a new plug and let the Permatex cure and I'll see if will stay put.

Re: Pushrod jumping out

Okay, It's still spitting pushrods on the odd startup.
Do I need a head rebuild?
Camshaft?
It runs okay after replacing the pushrod and the oil pressure is good.

Re: Pushrod jumping out

Been their done that. I had a week valve spring. Replaced both valve springs and pushrods on the one problem cylinder and all is good as new. Easy fix!
