Any Willys expert ??

Hi all

I want to buy me a jeep, probably march or april 2006, and this winter, I intend to inform myself in every way possible. I'm looking for a jeep that will get me to work, and a jeep that I can take into the woods.

So here I am, looking for jeeps for sale in ads and on the road. I saw a jeep that might be a good candidate for my purpose, but it puzzle me.

It is a Willys, with a DJ (dispacher jeep) type of body (hard top, slidind door) but it is 4 wheel drive. For what I found on the internet, DJ where made 2 wheel drive.

So any Willis expert here to tell me what it is I saw ???

DJ's (DJ5) were 2WD. So, if it's got 4WD now, then it's been modified. And, if it's not been done right you're the recipient of a botched job. Don't get Jeep fever just because it's a Jeep you can afford. Take more time, do more research and then you'll be better off.

As a start, I'd recommend The Jeep Owner's Bible. it's a good reference when you go to buy used Jeeps.

Can you post a picture of it?

It was possible to get the steel hard top/sliding door on a CJ5. Are you sure it is a DJ? Or maybe it was a CJ5 with a rusted out body that somebody put a DJ body on. Whatever it is, make sure you check it out, or have a mechanic you trust do it.

Re: Any Willys expert ??

It is not a CJ-5, It has flatfender, with the name Willys on the hood. For what I read, more a CJ-3 something.

No I'm not sure it is a DJ, but it has the body of it.

You say the the hard-top sliding door was an option, any web-site that show this so I can compare ???

thanks

Bob

Re: Any Willys expert ??

I saw it in a book of factory Jeep photos. If I can find it this weekend, I will scan it and post it on Monday. But it was on an early (1955?) CJ5, not a flattie. There were a lot of aftermarket hardtops available for flatfenders, maybe it has one.

Here you go Bob. Sorry about the big seam, it was spread across two pages. The caption atates it is a 55 CJ-5 and it has a factory hardtop. Hope this helps.

Yep, that's a '55 CJ5 with a factory HT. So, if it looks like that, the only question would be of the CJ5 year. The exact year could be found from the CJ's serial number.

You may find This very interesting.

Re: Any Willys expert ??

Apparently not. I guess the book and the website link from LEVE could be wrong, but I think that is unlikely. Perhaps factory hardtops are rare, but they made them, I guess.

Re: Any Willys expert ??

Bob F ! Your not crazy because I have seen one also. I spotted it last winter when the trees were bare and I tried to talk to the guy about it but he wansn't interested in talking and wouldn't even let me go check it out.. It's still there but I cant get a close look to see if its four wheel drive.. Oh yah and the one I saw was a flat fender and not the cj5...
