86 MJ Dana 44 rear: any good for swapin onto a CJ?

Got a line on an '86 MJ... has a Dana 44 rear. Can get for a couple of hundred.

Are the MJ (& I suppose XJ) D44's worth swapping onto a CJ?

How much of an upgrade - if any - is this D44 over the AMC-20?

(Unfortunately, the good ol' ADD kicked in and I forgot to check the gear ratio. )

5x4.5 bolt pattern. Might be able to get some aftermarket shafts in 5x5.5.

Might check to see if it is the aluminum center section version. Can't remember what those were on.

superior does sell axleshafts that are drilled for both patterns. When I changed my TJ to 5 on 5.5 pattern, I clamped a scout drum to the TJ drum and drilled the 5 on 5.5 pattern in the TJ drum. the drum doesn't center the wheel anyway.
Those MJ/XJ d-44's sell for good $$ around here, and the ones I've seen were 3.55 gears.

im swaping in a d44 out of a 87 comanche if its out of a 4cyl its going to have 4.10s they never put the aluminum center cection in the older 44s under comanches those are just under the grands you can go to mosor axles and have them re weld and drill them for 5on5

About, what's the axle worth?

Since it is the 2.8L/173ci V-6 - which has less HP & about same torque as the 4cyl - I'm thinking Psycho is correct w/ 3.73 or 4.10 gearing.

Know anyone looking for one?

3.73's or 4.10's are both possible with the 2.8
