Non-Plastic Valve Cover for 91 4.0L???

OK, I've searched the forum, and the aftermarket websites.

Does anyone make an aluminum (or other non plastic material) valve cover for the 4.0 engine??? Or am I stuck with plastic?

I have a vavle cover gasket leak, so I have to yank the valve cover anyway, thought I'd put something better back on.

Thanks,
Jess

Sure, for $100 you can buy one. Click on the graphic!

LEVE, leave it to you
I did not check 4wd.com.

I am of course confused now, they say it replaces the original steel valve cover. Mine is plastic. I thought everyone's was plastic on the 4.0L

Any thoughts?

Jess

Also, here is the same product from JCW, which says the fitment is 94-04, NOT 91-04

That's why I didn't think there was one out there for my 91 YJ...

91 YJ? Are you sure you have the 4.0?
Is it fuel injected or carb?
If you have a carb, then you have a 4.2L.
I believe all of the 4.0's had Aluminum.

I'm scratching my head on this one... every 4.0L engine I've seen did have an OEM metal cover. But changes were made, here's the part numbers:

5300 9243, 1990 -1991
5300 0054, 1992- 1993
5302 0482, 1994 and up

OK, the Jeep is at the mechanic's. He checked the VIN, and said the 10th digit was an 'M', which means 1991. I also checked the VIN back when I bought it, so I am fairly confident the Jeep is a 91.

It also has a 4.0L sticker on the back end of the Jeep, for what it's worth.

The mechanic verified that the valve cover IS plastic. He said the replacement kit includes a new plastic cover and a new gasket that is sort of molded in and part of the cover.

Has someone changed the engine, or the head on my engine???

HELP

Well if indeed you have a plastic valve cover on a 91 YJ 4.0 L motor. I might suggest you get an Aluminum valve cover,(stock from dealer) from a 91 or 92 XJ should fit with no issues.

Carb of FI?
If it's a carb...you have 4.2
If it's FI, you have a 4.0....

If you do in fact have a 4.2....then I have an almost new AL valve cover that came off my CJ that I will sell you....it needs a good home....
