Gas Tank for 4.0 swap

hey guys,

when i transfer over to the 4.0 litre, do i need to change to the gas tank from a 4.0 litre? The fuel pump is in tank correct? Can I use the sending unit from a 4.0 litre gas tank in my existing gas tank and just put in an inline fuel pump?

FYI I'm changing the complete wiring harness (engine and vehicle) to the 4.0 litre harness.

Re: Gas Tank for 4.0 swap

without knowing all the details on your swap, this is the best that I can offer. If you plan on using a in tank fuel pump, then change the tank out and use the tank and sending unit. I just used a in line pump and did not change my tank, but I have a CJ not a YJ like you do.

Re: Gas Tank for 4.0 swap

before you go and buy the tank and all make sure that you measure for comparison. i was going to put a newer tank in my cj with my 4.0 but it was too wide. i went with the external pump as well

Re: Gas Tank for 4.0 swap

i forgot to mention, i am using the newer YJ gauges that go with the wiring harness, so i'm not sure if the existing sending unit would work with them.

also i would assume that because it is a YJ both tanks should be the same size. could be wrong though.

Re: Gas Tank for 4.0 swap

the tank is the same size the new gauges should still work with your sender they run off of ohms and im about 85% sure they are runing the same ohms from there for the gauge if you have a parts jeep that you are geting every thing off of then i would get the tank but if not just run an inline fliter its easyer
