Road trip to Texas. Nuts?

As much as I dread it, I'm off to Texas friday for extended work related issues and I'm seriously considering driving my favorite toy. SOA on 37 MTR's. I've not shied away from roadtrips in the past in the beast but Texas would definitely be my longest haul to date in it's current configuration. I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to hold up to 1400 miles of road noise and my tires going whaaa whaaa whaaaaa the whole way. OTOH, the whole "topless in the southern sun" thing is right up my alley. Actually, topless in ANY sun, or lack thereof is right up my alley. You guys that have seen my SnowJeep pics will understand what I'm talking about. My only REAL concern is the safety of my poor baby. I'd hate to get down there around the Big Bad City and have some dirtbag walk off with my pride and joy, or bits and pieces (doors) thereof.

I'd do it! Hook up with a local 4 wheel drive club or a State 4 Wheel Drive Association! What a way to make friends and enjoy the time spent in texas!

That's a thought, though 12 hrs day, 6 days a week is going to put a damper on the festivities. Even so, anybody out there from the Navasota Texas area? I'm leaving Friday the 27th and wouldn't mind doing some light wheeling in the area.

Re: Road trip to Texas. Nuts?

I think you should do it...... it sounds scary, and there are RISKS. But, once you are in Tx, you'll be loving that jeep even more. Plus, once you get back home, you'll realize you were nuts, and wonder how you even CONSIDERED the trip in the jeep.

DO IT!! DO IT!! DO IT!!

(any chance of transporting the jeep [and driver]... on this short of notice?)

I drove my 79 to the bash 2 weeks ago in indiana. It was 600 miles each way. I drove up without the top on.

Re: Road trip to Texas. Nuts?

get a list of people on the board who live along the route you plan to take....and keep it with you.....that way if your jeep explodes you know who to call before a tow truck!
