Ever replaced a top?

ok so i went ahead and bought a replacement top from besttop..anyway so i refceived it with manual etc.. i have a 1997 jeep wrangler sport with a stock softtop....it says to replace it in warm ..so i waited until summer came and here we are..

i looked at the manual, i mean its clear but i still need advice...

i was told that sometimes these replacement top dont fit and i am afraid that if i take off this stock soft top off and then if ill have trouble putting this new one on, i am in trouble ..

anyway i called the dealership, they charge $300 for labor work..

i rather be safe then sorry but maybe its easy.. any advice i would appreciatte..

P.S. i did use the brand new side windows from the set of the replacement top and they wouldnt fit... they side that close in on the hardware wont reach to that point, ill take a video of it to show u what i mean..

Re: Ever replaced a top?

its really easy to put a soft top on. If it did not fit because it was not close enough to zip it is because it is not stretched out that is why they say do it on a warm day the fabric has been siting and shrinks happens to my top every winter when i take it off and put the hard top on

Re: Ever replaced a top?

You know that spreader bar for the rear that holds the back part up? Let it down. There is NO way you will be able to install the side windows with the back bar extended. Even with it down, it takes some effort on a warm day.

Babs, just do it! It takes time, patience and tools, that's it. Just installed a new one (1st time in 6yrs it has a top) a couple of weekends ago. It took me about 5 hrs, but I check and double-check everything. It is simple, hell, watch the video it came with, anyone can do it.

Does the video still have the hot chick with the long freshly polished finger nails doing the installation? Seemed realistic to me.... Not.

You can do it... take your time... it will be fun.

Re: Ever replaced a top?

Are you talking about the Bestop video?

I have 2004 Jeep soft top video that I swiped from a rental TJ in Maui. I had to watch it. Why does Jeep always have the dude with the day old stubble and a flannel shirt as the "Jeep Guy"?

Corny.

I even get mad at the tv commercials that I see that tool in.

Re: Ever replaced a top?

Babs, remove and replace the top when it's folded down. Just remember your steps when taking it off when you re-attach it.

The top will stretch when you put it up in the direct sun.
