Re: cant turn jeep on

ya its wierd...u must first pull the light swtich onto urself and then start the engine..

anyway.. here is an update

ok a buddy of my just came over with a battery booster....when he connected the plugs to the battery....the lights turned on right away, then i went on to tprocess to start the engine ...but it gave kinda of a skipping sound and wouldnt start.. not one of those sounds where engine wont start, but a skipping sound...what could this be?

Re: cant turn jeep on

yur gonna have to explain more...what the heck is a "skipping" sound....

and you really need to address this stupid wiring set up....

in the engineering world we call this the ROOT CAUSE....

example....
Jeep doesnt start...you find the battery is dead....so you charge it at home and go on your merry way.....later its dead again becasue you didnt find the ROOT CAUSE which was your alternator being dead and not charging..

in your case....quit thinking about getting it started and focus on why its mesed up in the first place....go to the root of the problem....which realllllly wounds like tis your fudged up wiring...

Get a repair manual....start chasing wires...needing your lights on to start isnt normal

Re: cant turn jeep on

dude, i know what a light switch in a TJ is, and no...its not normal.

the only thing you should have to do to start the vehicle is press the clutch pedal and then turn the key

sounds liek the previous owner did some stupid stuff.....hope you figure it out

Re: cant turn jeep on

Ever try starting it without messing with the light switch? The Prev Owner might have been pulling your leg Babs...

Re: cant turn jeep on

Ok Bab.....you can stop pulling our leg now.......

We know not many people drive in NY....but, that is a really outrages thing to have to do to start a jeep...much less, any other vehicle. The only way I could see this has happening, is if someone came up with a anti-theft scheme that required you to turn on the head lights first.
Personally, I think your just having some college fun.....shouldn't you be in finals right now?
