Suspension lift for 74 CJ5...what kind???

I have a 74 cj with a 2.5 inch lift. I don't know what brand of lift I have but it is rough as hell. Is that just the way the pre 76 cjs are with the shorter, more narrow springs or is it the type of suspension lift I have. I want to put a 4 inch lift on my cj5. Some have said that is a bad idea, to stay with the 2.5. What are yalls thoughts on this and what is the best suspension lift for the money.

If you think the 2.5 is stiff, the 4 will definitely be worse unless you go with someone like National or Alcan. The extra 1.5 of lift adds a lot of arch and consequently more resistance to bend! I have Skyjackers 2.5 on my '75 and it is the best riding of those narrow springed ones that I have been in. The rear sagged a little bit due to a heavy bumper/carrier and all of the extra gear I take with me, but I am still very happy with the ride and articulation. Try National Tire and Wheel when you price them out. I put a Superlift on a friends CJ7 and paid just over $400 for the springs, shocks, and U-bolts. Look at their suspension specials. They don't advertise what brand, but most of the time they are Superlift softrides. Just my $.02.
