O/T, Useless Fact O The Day....Presidents Limo

Heres your random fact of the day.

my buddy whos in the Airforce works loading and unloading Aircraft at Andrews AFB in Washington DC. On several occasions he's been on the crews that load up the Vehicles for the presidential convoys.....

anywho....randomly talking he mention that the presidential limo weighs about 17,200 lbs, and that the armour on the roof seems like its a foot thick

17200 lbs, thats a lot of steel!

I was watching one of those "discovery" channel shows and it was said that each of the side windows in the back (the ones in the doors) weigh ~ 250#...That's some thick a$$ glass like stuff.

remember the episode of the Dukes of Hazzard where Cooter stole the presidents limo? He was all happy when he got it to 100mph.

I wonder what type of power plant that limo has today.

With 5 in. worth of ballistic armor under its skin, and added height and length, the presidential limo tips the scales at close to 4 tons. It's probably based on a modified Escalade platform, riding on run-flat tires. The dark leather interior is environmentally sealed against chemical attack.

You might want to let your buddy know that he is not supposed to release specific details on the Limo or motorcade.

I don't think anyone here is suprised that the president's limo is a fortress on wheels?

I personally would be let down if it was anything less than nuke proof.

Although, it would be some justice if the president's limo had to resort to some 'hillbilly armor' like our brothers over in Iraq...
