OT tranny question

For the auto tranny gurus out there,,, What would cause the front seal (One the seals the torque converter) to blow out? And I do mean blow out as in the entire seal was loose from the tranny. I could shove it half way back into the hole it seals before it tightens up.

Any Ideas??

Just a guess (and no I'm not an Auto guru). Clogged filter, or valve body. I used to run alot of TH350's and when the valve bodies got dirty and clogged, it usually started to puked out the dipstick tube.

It sounds like it has the wrong seal in place

There is not much to go wrong there in the seal area. The torque converter snugs into the front pump and the flex plate and bell housing holds it all in alignment. If there were alignment issues then the front pump would be bad as well.

Only other option is the tranny vents have plugged and the front seal was weaker than the rear and it blew it out.

The vent is in the front just above the front pump on the 999's if that is what you have.

I think this is on his chevy diesel. GM transmission means the vent is on the top.

I pulled the pan today, fluid looked new, smelled fine, there was some clutch material in the pan, but no more than covered the magnet and maybee 1/16 inch thick likely less. The outlook is good, just gotta figure that front seal thing out.

Yes will it is on the Diesel th700r4 I believe. Least that is what they said it was. has a square pan. 4 speed. I hear that this is a common problem.
