Re: My rear scout dana 44 disk brake write-up

My rear disk conversion was very similar, but I used my old CJ front disks and calipers. I didn't weld the caliper brackets on the axle either, I made spacers and used longer bolts on the flange. I ground down my axles the way you did too. I still have to upgrade my booster/MC yet. Other than that, it works fine.

For some reason my first post didn't go through. Hope this doesn't double up.

Good write up - thanks.

Re: My rear scout dana 44 disk brake write-up

Keith.. cool! We just are finishing up that on my jeep for the rear wagoneer AMC 20.. same thing.. used a *slightly* different part from A&A
here are some links to *in-progress* pictures:

http://www.jrtzone.com/kelsjeep/p3110994.jpg

we are using the caddy calipers with the e-brake, hence the different bracket.

Also, we have 6-bolt rotors... I'm gonna do a writeup also.

One other thing, what are you using for a master cylinder & proportioning valve... we have a waggy m/c (tried to put on a corvette m/c, but it won't fit with the 258 and the howell kit b/c of the air cleaner)... we found the rears to be a bit spoungy and are adding a residual valve ($15 from summit or something like that) b/c we pretty much just had the rear going straight back with the drum brakes b/c it was pretty crappy.

Re: My rear scout dana 44 disk brake write-up

I'm going to be using a 78 mercury marquis 4 wheel disk master cylinder (has to be the one that was connected to a hydroboost) As for proportioning, i'm going to run the front directly to the mc, and use a manual one for the back. I went with the standard chevy caliper but am installing a line lock instead.

Not to hijack the thread, but what rotors did you use on the Waggy HD 20? I'm getting mine ready to go under now, and would like to entertain rear disks. I can wait for the rightup if it's forthcoming.

Great write up, I'm in the process of building my Scout 44's right now. This will be very helpful.
Thanks,
