T176 for GM swap

I'm looking for a T-176 for a 350 swap into a 84 CJ7. Or any 4 or 5 spd that will work (easily) with this swap. Thanks, Mike

If you are putting a 350 in your CJ, why not use a GM trans? That would be the easiest, because it would bolt right up without any adaptors. You could also try and find a GM tranfer case, and you would have an adaptorless drive train.
You say that you will take ether a 4 speed, or a 5
speed... Well the first one that comes to mind is the End all of Transmissions, the NV4500. That would be a good choice if you have a lot of time, and money. That trans alone will probably run you almost $2000. You can find a lot of info on it on the novak web page. The NV4500 will also be a pretty easy set up to add a D300 to, I think all you need is a clocking ring.
A cheaper choice would be to get a SM465, It is a 4 speed, and first gear is LOW, first and reverse are 6.55:1 ratio, 4th gear is 1:1
The SM465 is pretty rugged, and will pretty much hold up to anything you can throw at it, and novak sells a kit to adapt it to a D300 it is +/- $500.
There is a lot of great info on V-8 Swaps on the novak web page, I would suggest that you go there, spend some time. You will get more transmission, and transfer case info that you can digest.

Find an early 80's CJ that came with a GM Iron Duke 151 4 popper...there are many out there with a T176. The Iron Duke bellhousing is a standard GM bellhousing, meaning the 350 bolts right on. With MORE motor mounts the whole thing is pretty much a bolt-in. I'm currently running that setup in mine. Haven't blown it up yet! But I would suggest the SM 465 or the NV4500 as superior choices.

Actually Iron Duke / T176 combos are a rare bird, although they are around. However, I have a T-4 Iron Duke bellhousing and it has the bosses for a T-176, it would just have to be drilled. I'll second going with an sm465 if possible. T176 isn't a bad tranny, but it will wear fast behind a v8.

I will second all those post stearing you away from the t176. I have one in my 84 and looking to swap since it needs a rebuild with about 200k on it. If you are doing rock crawling and drive your jeep on the pavement. Once you go to low gears the over drive is a must. I am keeping my AMC 258 so the playing field is wide open for me since I will probably have to adapt anything I decide on. Again you might want to consider overdrive which I believe the 4500 has not sure which other GMs do.
