01 Grand Chero any problems??

Tossing the idea around of moving the wife into one we have at work. It's a right side swipe. Needs two right side doors and rocker repair. It's a driver as is, just ugly on that side. As of right now all I can tell you is that it is a 4.0. Don't know much of anything more about it other than it was owned but a BIG dealerships owners daugher.

Just wondering if there were any quirks in that year that might come back to haunt me.

(don't aske me any other questions about it other than color because I couldn't answer them. I'm just "thinking out loud" about it at the moment. It's really getting time to move the family up from a 94 vehicle (but still nice and dependable) while it still has a decent resale. (or before it let's us down and is big $$$ to repair)

Take a look at these:

CarFAX

Car Survey

Test Drive

And don't forget to check it's value at www.kbb.com

Hope it works out Dave.

Heck Dave you dont need anyone to tell you if it's a good deal or not.

The mag rags rated the GC 4x4 of the year more than any other.

From what Ive heard the gas MPG is about like a stock SWB or an XJ.

And some have a 35 rear.

Re: 01 Grand Chero any problems??

My wife had a '96 GC and loved it. It was the V8. Only problems were with front axle seals or bearings. Had to replace the whole half shafts @ $1000.00 but loved the Jeep. Youngest son has a '98 GC with the 4.0 and has had nothing but good luck with it. Changed oil and tires in 110,000 miles so far. No repairs yet. And they are great in midwest winters, probably better in snow than my TJ due to the added weight. :All Good:

Re: 01 Grand Chero any problems??

I had a 96 for a patrol vehicle it was a used lease when we got it. I drove it like hell for 2 years and it was fine when we traded it in on a real police car. 2 things I did not like about it cost about 400.00 to get the throtel limiting crap off of it so I could run it up to 120 It would go faster but my tail was slamed shut on any manuvering whatsovever..... So if you don't plan to drive it like that I bet she would be happy with it.

Oh yea the second thing It liked to jump up on 2 wheels alot... But again see above.
I liked the ride of our old explorer better, but it was a gas hog.

I would never get another for a patrol vehicle but if the wife wanted one I would let her have it.

Re: 01 Grand Chero any problems??

My brother bought an 01 GC with the V8. Not sure if you had options on the Tcase. I think most had AWD and not 2wd. My brothers gets about 14mpg with the v8 and AWD. Co-Worker with the 4.0 got about 16-18 mpg.

Its funny how many cars I hear that were used by the 'owner's wife/daughter'. Makes you wonder sometimes.

Haven't heard of any real problems with the 01 GCs. The lift glass on the tailgate is something that I wish my XJ had.

Re: 01 Grand Chero any problems??

Ours had the onboard computer that kept track of the average mileage. In 106,000 miles it averaged 17.3 mpg with the V8 and fulltime 4WD. I think that's pretty typical from talking to other owners who say they got 16.5 to 18 mpg.

I passed on it already, but thanks for the reply's. It was a little steep (don't even know the final price) when I found out what we had in it.
