===== Who runs naked (without flares)??

I've been thinking of removing my flares completely and trimming the front fenders higher (to get max clearance). I know that this means possible more junk coming up at me and my passengers, but I'm not sure how bad. My 35's would stick out of the body a good 5" without flares.

I'm wondering for those of you who have done this, do you like it, do you regret it????? What I am talking about doing is like in the picture (only front, I don't want the rears like that).

I don't run much mud, but alot of sand, trails, and street. I also flat tow when going more than 100miles. Photo is borrowed (don't remember where).

I like it except for gravel roads and those shallow little mud holes always spray me in the face (I don't run a windshield when wheeling).

Some states require that the tires be covered for the most part you need to check local law and law in any other place you intend to drive to or while there.

I know that VA and TN are bad about the flares...NC, has no law about tires sticking out...

I like the look of no flares. I did that for about 2 weeks after trimming my fenders to make room for 35's. That was long enough for me. Just driving 10mph down a wet dirt road made a mess. I put my lawn edging flares back on after that.

Re: ===== Who runs naked (without flares)??

In Michigan here, either we have no law, or no one cares (the law). I've never seen or heard of anyone getting pulled over for it, and in the past I ran for years with tires outside the flares.

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys. If I don't like the flare-less, I'll end up getting PSC Tube fenders with flares.

Re: ===== Who runs naked (without flares)??

Where I live, there is a law, that says that tires have to be covered with a flare... I have never heard of anyone getting pulled over for it, or getting in trouble. The time when it comes into play is when inspection time comes around. The thing to do here to pass inspection is to put on a set of tires that are super narrow that fit under the flairs for inspection. As long as it is legal when it leaves the inspection station... the sticker is valid.
It is pretty funny to see a full size chevy that is set up for 44" boggers driving down the road on 31" pizza cutters... But it works ! and a sticker is a sticker.

Re: ===== Who runs naked (without flares)??

I drove around with no front fenders at all last year and it sucked. I never got harrased by the UP cops and i got pulled over for no tail lights and they didn't care. I'm not going to run flares this season (cut my allready butchered fronts as much as i could) and see how i like it. It was nice not having front fenders and a stuby bumper,it worked really well offroad. I'm hoping my jeep turns into a strictly comp rig and i'll have something else for the muddy trails by the end of the summer/ winter that's warm and dry.
