O/T Pepsi cans

DON'T BUY PEPSI IN THE NEW CAN!

Don't buy Pepsi in the new can. Pepsi has a new "patriotic" can
coming out with pictures of the Empire State Building, and the Pledge
of Allegiance on them. However, Pepsi left out two little words on the
pledge, "Under God." Pepsi said they didn't want to offend anyone. In
that case, we don't want to offend anyone at the Pepsi corporate
office, either.. So if we don't buy any Pepsi product, they will not be
offended when they don't receive our money that has the words "In God
We Trust" on it.

HOW FAST CAN YOU FORWARD THIS ONE?

Re: O/T Pepsi cans

Welcome to my first potentially offensive O/T response.

According to the 1st amendment (not the 3rd or the 6th) the word God shouldn't be on anything that is funded (directly or indirectly) by the government. This includes the pledge and yes, even money. God was only added to the pledge during the hysteria of the McCarthy era, not a proud moment for this country. If your understanding of the amendment is different, please read it again.

So, you have two choices. Change the constitution or remove church from state. Laws can't simply ignore infractions that don't offend most people.

Even though I applaud Pepsi for a step in the right direction, I still respect the right of people to vote with their pocket book. I'll be voting also.

Man, what a freakin' bunch of crap.

I can't stand it when all these 'groups', be they religous, anti-religous, pro-minority, anti-minority, etc., etc., complain about the "God" thing, but man, they sure are all at the front of the line to receive that nice crisp American Dollar, with the "In God we trust" on it. Be it welfare, unemployment, whatever. They don't appear to object to that. Re: O/T Pepsi cans

i didnt know Pepsi was the state or the Gov't....

im pretty sure they can do what they want.

this thing isnt for real anyways....so no need to stress

if it was real, consumers who care can chose not to buy the product....which is what Tom was doing, trying to spread the word to people who care.... if you dont care then the post doesnt apply to you

in my opinion all ya'll need to relax, maybe switch to pepsi de-caf.

Re: O/T Pepsi cans

I can't say that I'm a Pepsi fan, but its the only soft drink I drink, other than 7up for a mixer. If this is an accurate report I'll buy bottled pepsi, maybe a dropoff in sales of canned pepsi will get the message across. And I wholeheartedly disagree that the First Amendment bars the use of the word "God" anywhere. What the First Amendment does is provide for a separation of church and State, meaning that our government will not be run by or endorse a particular religion. John F. Kennedy was the first Catholic elected President, but a person from any religious belief or lack of belief could be elected. Now I'll get off my soapbox.

Re: O/T Pepsi cans

I think what most people missed about this post was in eeboaters link:

[ QUOTE ]

Summary of the eRumor:
You are told that Pepsi removed the words "under God" from a patriotic can that included the Pledge of Allegiance.. You are also urged to tell your pastor and your church about it so a boycott of Pepsi can be conducted.

The Truth: This story is not true.
