We must really love Jeeps....post your stories

The last couple of months have really been filled with Jeep problems, but this one was the strangest.

In early December a rod went through my block of my Stroker. I had a shop do the rebuild and it was smoking blue smoke so I was taking back for them to trouble shoot it. I was trying to make sure the rings were seated and after starting from a stop a U-joint broke. I got out and could only find the back half of the rear driveshaft still connected at the axle. A sleepy couple came out of their house in their pajamas and wondered what hit their house. Uh Oh. We looked all over for the shaft or where it might have hit their house. We still couldn't find it. I returned a few other times to look for the missing half. I finally found it in a yard on the next block over. I can only guess that the U-joint broke and the shaft flung very fast and hit their roof shooting it into the other yard.

Then, a week ago at Johnson Valley I broke two Warn lockouts on my full float rear. The shock took out the Detroit locker as well. Then, trying to get out being towed in front wheel drive only, I broke a front axle shaft off at the carrier.

This has been a rough couple of months.

It's always seemed to me that the more we upgrade and improve and 'bulletproof' things, the more things break. Hmmmm.

along the same lines as that.......

when you upgrade one thing you have to upgrade an other.....

When you add a lift, you have to get new tires.
when you get new tires you have to get new gears.
also with the lift you may need new driveshafts.
or a SYE on newer jeeps..
since you're doing gears you may as well add a locker.
.....

and the list goes on.....

Kinda like "If you give a Mouse a Cookie" if you guys remember that kids book.

When you make every thing as bullet proof as possible you only get further in to s&%t, before something breaks and it usually costs a lot to repair.

Soooo,, I like to keep a safety valve that does not cost a lot.

I don't upgrade the ujoints I leave the stock type in and up grade every where else this leaves me with $7.00 repair instead of a $700.00 repair. and all are happy .

Including the Jeep wife

you sent half your driveshaft flying probably 100-200 ft! What were you doing to send it that far? I can't imagine that JUST starting from a stop there was that much force. did you bring it up to about 4 grand and drop the clutch? no wonder you're breaking stuff! and even worse...
Your buddy broke down in the middle of sledge and we had to winch around him....putting holes in both mine and Peteyg's bellhousings....

just kidding(sorta).
It was good to meet you out there. Too bad neither of us was in a good position to BS much right then. We'll have to plan a trip wheeling. I saw when you guys got back to camp... we ran upper sledge, got back, and we were pretty sauced by then.. it looked like a VERY long weekend for you guys.

Nothing crazy. I was stepping into the gas from the stop, but that's the fun of having a stroker, right?

The people were pretty pissed to be honest. They hear the engine (which is pretty loud), then a loud bang, then something hits their house.

I'm just glad I wasn't at a busy intersection. Can you imagine the possibilities?

elusive,

You guys were gettin it for sure. I have been up that side once, but after seeing you guys I'm sure it has changed a lot from a couple of years ago.

Let me know when you're going again. My next trip may not be until Easter (Moab), but we'll see.
