YJ trany compatibility ?????

I have a poor friend who neeeds a trany! I have a puegout trany out of an 87 YJ with a 4.2 I6. My friend has a 93 YJ with the 4 banger in it, does any one know if peugout tranny will fit in the 93 YJ???? I have a feeling that the input shaft is the same but the output to the transfer case is to large. If any one could help with this that would be great!!
Thanks

don't do it, the pougoet is garbage to begin with. I know it will bolt up to the transfer case but i believe the bellhousings are different between the amc 16/ v8 and 4 bangers.

His trans is shot and I have it for him for free so if it fits I would've put it in for him. If it doesn't then what tranny should he look for?
Thanks for your help

No not a simple bolt in
The bell housing from the 4.2 and the 4cyl have diff. bolt pattern.

the BA/10 will not bolt to the 4 cyl bell housing.

the output on the BA/10 has a 21 spline the 93 t-case has a 23 spline input.

these are all factors besides the BA/10 being a very weak tranny.

the ax-5 5 speeds are pretty cheap from junk yards......i know its not free...but they seem to do OK against a 4 banger and are easy to find

sorry for the hijack, but it's in a related theme...can anyone say with any certainty whether or not a TF999 from '87-90 is interchangeable (i.e. will it fit on my '90?)...i recall reading somewhere that the 999's had different bolt patterns...

mine finally went for a ...if it's not one thing it's another

Yep the ones built for a Chrysler product had different bolt patterns

But one that was built for an AMC/Daimler V-8 or straight 6 from 1970 to 1995 will have the same bolt pattern. The V6 and 4 cyl had a different bolt pattern for the tranny/bell housing.

Those are the years I'm sure of there are probably more if anyone wants to chime in
