Dana 44 axle from Cherokee fitting under a TJ

I am curious, as far as width is concerned, if a Dana 44 rear axle from a Cherokee is the same (or how close in) width as a TJ 44?

Any ideas?

Really... do you know the actual length of a Cherokee 44 as compared to a TJ 44?

Well if that is the case then the rear should be the same width and therefore fit... I would just need to weld on the new bracketry...

Elusive... Is that offer to weld on the brackets for a really good steak still available?

Be careful, that rear can only be geared as low as 456 and only has a couple limited slip's that will fit, I could not find a locker to go in it. Housing is aluminum,, which doesn't mean much to me,, but just know what you are getting.

The gearing is fine... I only want to go to 4.56s. I am looking at the Cherokee D44 which is steel I believe. The Grand Cherokee is the model that came with the option of the Aluminum housing. The Cherokee D44 was only available in 87 and 88 and maybe a few rare models later.

Sorry,,, you are right. I forgot about them... Gearing may not be an issue either then..

Yeahh... I do use mine for driving around a bit... Im running 35ws now with the dana 35 and just asking for trouble :- )

I think the 4.56s will compliment the auto tranny and 35 tires well.
