locker qustion

I am going to be buying a gears and lockers do not know if I should get a full spool or a mini spool. I like the price of the mini spool but is it as strong as a full spool. is there any thing diffrent about them besides the mini spool keeps the carrier

Re: locker qustion

what type if diff are you running?
the only problem with a mini is that is limited by the strenght of the carrier.
a full spool replaces the carrier.
as for the aussie lockers they do not do well with larger tires. a 31 is all they recc.
it is just like the lok rite

Re: locker qustion

I've got a buddy with a TJ, D30 front with an Aussie. He loves the skinny pedal...blew up his front drive shaft AND a u-joint but didn't break the Aussie, he is running 32's...

I can start listing lots of rigs I know that are running 32's and larger that have Power-trax, Loc-Rights and Aussies that have NOT broken...even with liberal amounts of stupid pedal...

Re: locker qustion

Full spools are much stronger than minis. Remeber if your regearing you will probably need new carriers anyways so factor carriers into the equation when considering mini spools. I would think twice about running a mini or full spool up front, it will effect your turning off road. I havn't run one so i can't tell you how bad it will be. I have a lockright for my front axle and i'm running 35's. I havn't gotten the jeep back together yet to test it though. I should be a good test of it running 35's and probably competing.

Re: locker qustion

Why are you stuck on a spool???? Without a hydr assist or full hydro they can be a pain.........but wihtout a doubt full is better than a mini strength wise. I have seen my fair share of tru tracs, and lockrite bust with just 33's.

Re: locker qustion

I have been running a dana 30 front, 44 rear both with lockrights behind a 360 for 4 years now. 3 of those was with 33's and almost a year now with 35's. I also have 4.10 gears but an automatic which absorbs shock loads where a clutch does not.

The aussie locker does not have a tire size limitation, If you will read the FAQ at the web site offroadlockers.com you would of notice this. This locker has been tested on many rock crawling vehicles with only one failure, this being a installment problem, and the company still warrenty the product. Two year warrenty is pretty good since they do not required a shop to install.

Yes, it like a lockrite and ez locker but it also a second method compaired to welding or spools. it will aleast keep from wearing your tires.
