They need something!
The Unlimited didn't sell anywhere like they expected. The Rubicon Unlimited isn't going like they hoped either.
People are still buying the regular Wranglers.

That's according to the sales manager/owner of a Jeep dealer.

Perahps if the prices were lower they'd sell more.

If the price on the new Porsches were lower they'd sell more...Or the BMW's or the Merc's or the Toyota's or the Ford's or the Dodge's or the...

If the Unlimited Rubicon was $5000 cheaper would you go and get one today? If a new Porsche 911 was $30,000 cheaper would you go get one today?

For most people the difference in 10% or even 20% in the cost of an automobile will not change the purchase choice...if you WANT that car, you are gonna get it, even if it costs more than you want to pay...

When The Loveley Jeep Wife bought her RAV4 (in 97) she had gone out to replace her 12 yr old Camry. She did not want to spend more than $20,000. With the RAV optioned the way she wanted it came out to $22k (10% above what she wanted to pay)...We bargained it down to $21k and some change (5% above...) so she bought it...Would she have bought it at $22,000? Yes...she wanted that car! She would likely have bought it at $24k if that was the price...People are either gonna buy it or not based on want...not on a small percentage of price.

Re: Jeep Hurricane Concept Vehicle - I want one!!

thats true sometimes.

If i hadnt made the choice to go back to school, i wouldnt have bough a DD vehicle...i would have waited and gotten a Rubicon Unlimited.....but alas funds dont permit, maybe i'll find one a lil cheaper in a few years....and hopefully it'll have been owned by a soccer mom who took it to the dealer for maintanance every 3000 miles.....

im really surprised that i dont see unlimiteds all over the palce yet.

then again i havent even seen that many on dealer lots ? ? ?

at a glance in trafic its still kinda hard to tell an unlimited apart from a regular , so maybe we are seeing more but just not noticing them when we check out oncoming traffic?

Re: Jeep Hurricane Concept Vehicle - I want one!!

The regular Rubicon has come down considerably. Not sure if the list price has, but the selling price sure has. The dealer told a friend he could get one for more than $5000 less than I paid. But then, I got one shortly after they first came out so I expected such. $31,000 +.

The Unlimited Rubicon starts about there now, but since they aren't "going like hotcakes," I'd bet soon you'll be able to get a really good deal on one.

My justification to myself when I bought mine was all the "extra goodies" like bigger T-case and gears, 44's, selectable lockers etc would cost about the same as if I just bought a new TJ and put all that on myself. But I didn't have all the work to do it!

But even then, it needs to be finished - needs tires/wheels, suspension, heavy tire carrier, skid plates, etc., another $6-8 K.

I have yet to wheel with an unlimited -- very curious as to how that extra 10" of wheelbase works out. Bet sometimes great, sometimes a pain. But I know for sure the extra interior room would be handy - unless it's used to put too much weight in.

That concept car has some neat possibilities. Two motors, sounds like it may even eventually be a hybrid electric.
