What tranny/tcase for 4.3 swap into a CJ5?

A person at my office is wanting to have a new engine/tranny put in her '66 CJ5. She won't really be doing any trails in it, but she wants it reliable with more power and an overdrive stick. Her dad bought it new in '66.

The guy doing the work is thinking a Vortech 4.3L Chevy would be ideal. She wants a 5 speed for a tranny. Is there something out of an S10 that would bolt up to the existing tcase?

What else would you suggest? What about the newer nv3500? Does that come behind a 4.3?

Any ideas?

Re: What tranny/tcase for 4.3 swap into a CJ5?

the T5 and NV1500 units that Chevy had put behind the four poppers wont last agains the 6 cyl torque for very long.....so dont use that

the NV3500 five-speed is in 1990 and newer 4.3L S-10s, so thats a definate option. and is available for 4wd

Another option is the T56 six-speed used in 1993-97 TPI Camaros and Firebirds. Itís not as simple to adapt to the S-10, but itís strong, light, and has well-placed ratios (but i dont know if its got overdrive or if it can be mated to T-cases)

the NV 3550 comes stock behind dodge and jeep engines might work ....you could get one and get an adapter and all that fun stuff and maybe make it work though.
