Removing lockright locker? AMC 20

Well since swapping axles I've got a lockright sitting in the old axle that I can't use. I didn't put it in so I've got no idea how to take it out. Best I can gather so far is I'll have to pull the axle shafts, remove the ring gear, and then what????? I've pretty much got this thing sold, I just need it out of the carrier.

You may not have to pull the ring gear if you can get the shaft for the locker,(spider gears)out past it. You will have either the roll pin or a bolt holding this in on the carrier. Then pull the lock right out of the carrier.

You just need to pull the pass side axel. The 20 has a roll pin holding the cross shaft.

Been awhile since I put one in -- but don't the side gears get replaced with the Lock-rite gears?

If so, he'll need new side gears to go back in.

Nothing is going back in. This is just an old axle thats laying around and will be parted out the best I can do, so no worries there. I'll just have to mess around with it to see how to get it all out and sold.

Depending on what gears you have you will not have to pull the ring gear. But you will have to pull both axle shafts. Once you get that done you have to pull the shaft out of the diff. Then pull the springs and locking pins out of the Lockrite. Be careful when taking those springs out, they will shoot out of there. There is actually two springs with each pin. Then you can pull the thing out in pieces.

If nothing is going back in then pulling the Ring Gear just might be the easiet way. wether you think hammering on the ring gear to get it off the carrier or screwing around trying to get the Springs and pins out of the locker thru their little tiny arse holes.

If I was in your shoes and not putting the axle back together, I'd smack the ring gear off, drive the counter shaft roll pin out and pull the locker out.

OK, it's not going back together....

If I remember it also has one piece axles (don't seal). Why not carefully take that silly thing apart and sell every last part that you can. Axle shafts (bent or not), carrier, gears and not to mention the Locker.

No reason to trash anything, just take it apart - won't take very long.

$0.02

Re: Removing lock-right locker? AMC 20

that lockright will only fit the amc 20 so just pull the carrier and leave it in the carrier. The amc 20 is really not worth much in stock form unless somebody else break something.
