OBA Hose blew/melted

I was inflating a air mattress this weekend, and the hose from the York to the distribution block melted and blew open. Of course the compessor was running a lot longer than I ever have run it as an air mattress takes a lot of volume, not like a intermittant air tool.

The distribution block is mounted on the fender well, so a hard-line won't work. Anyone seen this and/or have any ideas on how to avoid this?

TIA.

Re: OBA Hose blew/melted

Mine went at a mud-drag event...

(Everyone aired down too far, and wanted me to provide air to get their tires back up to 12-15lbs.)

Anyways.
Try to find a fittings store.
Someone who specifically deals in fittings and hose.

I picked up 5ft of some black hose, its heavy, and the perfect size (took my old one in to compare)

Told the guy. "Need something with this inside diamiter, that will resist, oil, mosture, heat and pressure."

He asked.. "how much of each? and what length."

I was so shocked because I had been looking everywhere for something that would just stand up to the pressure i needed..

So I said.. "400deg, 300PSI and about 5 ft"

He then said.. "only got this stuff for 800degrees and 600psi."

Had it on there since... works great.. and has probably pushed thousands of gallons of compressed air through it.

Also, put on about 5-6 ft and rout it around in a circle or whatever. IT helps to cool the air a bit before it hits your manifold and pressure switches/gagues.

Re: OBA Hose blew/melted

Get the Goodyear industrial presure line. I got mine through Kilby but it can be had cheaper. I then ran about 4 foot of it around to my block, you cannot touch the compressor side when it has run for a while, but the block end is fine.

Re: OBA Hose blew/melted

Mine blew up under the hood a couple time when I was using 300psi standard compressor hose.
I switched to some really thick red hose. It has been fine the last couple years.
I also open the hood when I am going to be using it a lot, lets the heat out.

Re: OBA Hose blew/melted

I've seen both hydrolic & A/C high side hose used.

Re: OBA Hose blew/melted

Actual A/C hose is what I use and should be fine. It is rated for the heat and 500lb pressure right off the compressor. Lot's of A/C systems fun 350lb of high side pressure for extended periods of time and it works for them. I was running standard airline for a short while but blew several hoses of due to heat/melting. The A/C hoses cured it for me.

Re: OBA Hose blew/melted

Hydrulic hose will take the beating and not care. Oil will never bother it, heat wont bother it either. The compressor at work blew the steel line from the compressor to the shutoff and in a pitch we just put a hydrulic hose on it and its been there for three years now and looks as good as the day we put it on.

www.onboardair.com
He sells the stuff by the foot. Special fittings and no hose clamps needed.
