Winch gear locked

I know little about winches. I am trying to get my Dads winch ready for him.

My problem is I have a gear that will not turn and I don't know how to take it apart. Any help is appreciated.
Here is some pics:

Re: Winch gear locked

it should be a caged bearing if i remeber mine correctly. the shaft should pull out the side of the case. i think mine had a roll pin holding the shaft in.

Re: Winch gear locked

It is a caged bearing. Actually 2 of them. I had to replace mine not too long ago because it was sloppy as heck from them dieing. The shaft on mine didn't have a rollpin in it tho. It was "staked" in. Meaning it had punch marks on the case holinf it in. (like with a small screwdriver) I just had to drive it out and restake it when I was done. But yours may be different. Mine is an 84 vintage.

How do I get it out? Punch it out?

Forgive my naiveness...what is a roll pin?

Thank you

I posted my profile...now my pictures don't like to come up. I think tripod likes them to go down so people see there name...I need to find a new host. Anyhow, here is the links to the pictures...they should come up by themselves.

Re: Winch gear locked

Yup. I just punched mine out. Fixed everything, re assembled it and then used a screwdriver to "punch" the alum housing around the pin so it wouldn't come out. That is how mine was made anyway. I'm not sure about different years. They could be different like burned bronco (Zakk) said.

Right On.

If it is in there like Burned Bronco (Zakk) how do I get it out. How do I find a rolled pin?

Re: Winch gear locked

you will see a pin holding it in the housing if it has a roll pin, then you drive the pin out.... then push the shaft out.
