----Home made cold air intakes - SHOW ME

OK, my last post got squat for a response, so lets ask the question another way:

How do I make a home made cold air intake off of a GM TBI (5 1/8")?

I have seen online many built using exhaust tubing, PVC, plumbing connections, etc. My questions specifically are these:

Is PVC safe to use under the hood? I read that they can melt, causing toxic fumes.

How do I connect the cold air tubing to the intake (because mine is 5 1/8")? I need ideas on how to reduce from the 5 1/8" down to the cold air tubing.

Has anyone else done this? How did you do it?

Any pictures or links would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Have you thought of hitting some parts yards? You may find what you're looking for there and you may also come up with some ideas of your own. I saw one a while back that had been made out of fiberglass.
I know this isn't much help but maybe it will point you in a productive direction.

I like this approach, and it seems relatively easy to create your own "backwoods engineered" copy of it.

I sort-of have the same questions that you have concerning the intake for a TBI 258. Anyway, I never did come to a conclusion, but spent several days searching junkyards for intakes. I picked one up from a TBI chevy blazer, it would not fit because of my brake booster. Then I found this...

It would probably work. You would need to address the PCV vent return, find a filter other than the stock filter box, and find a place to locate it. Because of the brakes, the nozzle has to point toward the passenger side or toward the front.

By the way, this came out of a small 4.9L TBI caddy..
