OT, Access or Excell Gurus Help:

I am trying to make some data bases for keeping track of things and just looking for someone who has a clue. I can do simple stuff, but cannot seem to make caculations work, or name horazontal rows.

I have tried the help, and since I do not speak the language I am not getting it.

Re: OT, Access or Excell Gurus Help:

At least with my old version ('97) all you need to do to name a horizontal line is put the name you want in the first column. But I don't think that the software will recognize it as a heading and repeat it when it prints a second page to the right.

As for formulas, try something like " = C17 + D17 * .3 + .05" It works just like Algebra 101; takes the number in cell D17 and multiplies it by .3, then adds the number in cell C17 and adds .05, and puts the result in the cell where you put the formula.

There are lots of gotcha's waiting. Some common ones are calling for an arithmetic operation on a cell that has text in it, unbalanced parantheses, and dividing by a cell that has zero in it.

Call me this morning if you want some more help. The Boss is going to have me doing yard work this afternoon.

Re: OT, Access or Excell Gurus Help:

Between Kathy and I, I think we can get you going Jeff. I've been using both for years, and Kathy has been using Excel for less time, but has actually been to trining for it.
Give us a buzz later or stop by.
Like Jim, I've got a lot of yard work to do today, but I'm always open to a good excuse to put it off.

Re: OT, Access or Excell Gurus Help:

I'm an IT director for a Mortgage company -- so I'm working with Excel, Access and all those lovely applications every day of the week. I'd be glad to offer a helping hand if you want.

PM me with what you are trying to setup. I may be able to just setup the file for you and email it to you, rather than trying to describe how to do it via email.

Sean
