CJ Frame Swap
Hello all, I'm a newbie when it comes to jeeps. Recently, I purchased a 47 WIllys CJ2A. Pulled it out of the woods, and it looks like it. Took the whole thing apart! The outer frame rails are shot, gone, beyond repair. The cross members could probably be salvaged. I want to stick with a stock vehicle if possible. Are frames from any other models interchangable with CJ2As(MB, CJ3A, CJ3B, CJ5)? Secondly, when six cylinder engines were introduced did they stop using the four?

Re: CJ Frame Swap
Dusty,
First off, PLS finish filling out your profile so we can get to know you a little better. It also helps us to help you when we know a little more about you. That said, I cannot answer you first question, but this reply will serve to 'bump' your post back to the top (BTT) so maybe someone else can/will. As to your second question:
In reply to:
when six cylinder engines were introduced did they stop using the four? [/ QUOTE ] the answer is no. to my knowledge Jeeps have always been offered w/ four cyl. engines... from the initial MB in '41 to present day. I think the only Jeep vehicles NOT offered w/ 4 cyl engines were the full-size Cherokees, Wagoneers and J-trucks. Per my reference material, the first Jeep 6 cyls (6-226's)appeared in the '54 Willys trucks & station wagons. The first CJ's w/ 6cyl engines appeared in '66 (w/ the Buick V-6 225ci 'Dauntless'). (Hopefully, my ref book is correct, but Will just caught some erroneous info I gleaned therefrom and posted... hopefully he will likewise verify or correct this, as well as may be able to answer your frame question.) Godspeed w/ you -2A work. |
Re: CJ Frame Swap
As far as the frame swaping goes, I can`t say if the MB,3A,3B will interchange but I`m thinking probable. The early CJ (M38A1) and later CJ`s will not.

Re: CJ Frame Swap
I have a 46 cj2a, and I put a 69 jeepster frame under mine, after cutting 21 inches out. after I did this I acquire a old Dj. I notice the frame was almost identical to the cj2a with some extra reinforcement added. The dj came with a 44 and power steering

Re: CJ Frame Swap
I have one, that's an Advanced Frame Works frame-looks good, lasts long time. Anything good starts with a solid foundation. You have a sweet piece, rebuild it right. Good Luck.

Re: CJ Frame Swap
An early CJ5 frame will swap under there.
The mounting points aren't exactly the same, but if the frame rails are that rusted, I doubt that the floor channels are there anyway. PS- Jeep stopped using the 4cyl when AMC started using their in line 6cly in them. ('72) |
