Help - SBC Engine Placement?

Need input/measurements regarding the placement of my 5.7L V8 in an 84 CJ. Hopefully, some of you that have already done it can give me some measurements.

1. How far is your dist cap from the firewall?
2. How far is the water pump from the radiator? (use the center stud as reference)
3. How high is the engine?...i.e., using the oil pan gasket surface as a reference, where is it in relation to the top front of the frame? If your using the Novak motor mounts, how high above the frame are they?

I'm using the Novak kit including their motor mounts. One problem already is that it looks like the bracket that limits the diff travel has to go...the motor mount needs to weld where it is.

Any input would be appreceated....I would rather learn from someone else's mistakes......

Re: Help - SBC Engine Placement?

I just put mine on the cherry picker with a levling hitch deal-ey.

and pushed it around until I got it where I wanted it.

hang it there with the tranny and case on it, the slap the grill/rad/fan on.

make sure nothings going to hit, then make sure the hood isnt going to hit the engine..

I set mine up so it was as far forward as possible, and heigh enough so the tranny had about 1.5" clearance in the tunnel right the way around.

Re: Help - SBC Engine Placement?

DD, I have a 1/2`` between the dist and the firewall. I will go get other measurements in a bit. My motor sits really low in the frame. I made my own motor mounts.

Re: Help - SBC Engine Placement?

I went with bolt in Bomb Proof Motor Mounts which place the engine with about 3/4" clearance for the full size HEI distributor and room for a long water pump and electric puller fan.
