Help with clutch bleeding

Ok background:
Converted to hydro clutch just before spring bash. Installed a cj 4cyl slave cylinder. Was using a 3 finger clutch. Never could get enough throw from it. It would just grind into every gear. Called my jeep guy, and he suggested that I go with a diaphram clutch as they require less throw along with a master cylinder from that same cj because it puts out more fluid. So I did that, and got everything all set up (including spacer between the shift fork and slave rod) The first few times, it worked perfectly. But unfortunately, I never permanently attached the spacer causing the spacer to go flying along with the rod from the slave cylinder. I took the slave cylinder apart and reassembled it. Now for some reason, I can't get the damn thing to work. I would bleed it all day long and still not get enough pedal. If I have my wife hold down the clutch pedal while I release the bleeder screw and then retighten it, the next step of the pedal is good, but I can see the slave cylinder rod slowly being compressed all the way back. All pedal after that is no good. Is it possible that by having the slave spit out the rod so violently, i screwed it up? I need some help thanks
