T-case Juice?

What does everyone here use in the D300 for lubrication?

I've heard ATF or Gear oil.. Is there any preferance?

Re: T-case Juice?

A good quality 80/90 wt gear lube is what I have been told.

Definitely go with the Gear Oil. The ATF will be damaging over the long term.

Re: T-case Juice?

I asked this same question after the output shaft seals quit and got many different answers. I went to my favorite 4X4 gear shop here in town "Savoi's 4 Wheel Drive" and was told that either 80/90wt gear oil or ATF would be fine in my D300, but that they prefered gear oil. We also looked in all their manuals, they all recommended 80/90wt gear oil. Hope this helps.

Exactly, use GL-5 (Gear Lube 80/90w). ATF will make a mess of it if you drive it on the highway. There are designer lubes that are RED and look a bit like ATF but are not anything like ATF, likely even better but more expensive and for the $$ you are much better off with GL-5 and changing the lube more often (well that's my opinion).

If you take it off into the mud and water... you have to change it anyway just to be sure there isn't any water in the case.

Re: T-case Juice?

Thanks guys, I wasn't trying to skimp by using ATF.. I just heard it could be used.

Going to get some oil tomorrow.

But.. how much goes in an empty case is my next question.

I've searched on here, and I don't have a manual.. (D300 is the only thing in my Jeep that would warrent that particular manual)

TIA

Re: T-case Juice?

Maybe I've been doin it wrong, but I just keep pumping it in until it starts to come back out the fill hole a little bit, then I put the plug back in. Not had any problems doing it that way.

If there's a specific measurement I'd like to know too.

Re: T-case Juice?

That's what I do also. If I remember correctly, the owner's manual even recommends this highly technical technique.

CJ owner's manual also says:

Transfer Case Model 300 4.0 pints / 1.9 liters
