Transmission swap

I am in the initial stages of performing a tranny swap in my 81 CJ-7 (still need to locate a tranny) I would like to swap out the SR-4 and put in a T-18 between the 258 and D300 transfer case. Does anybody have any info on this swap? Easy vs. hard? Any advance adapter kits required? Different clutch? Any info would be a great help. I am doing the research first before I start.

Re: Transmission swap

Check out There is a great deal of info on the novak sight, and you will be able to get a really good Idea as to what you need. They also have great support if you have a question about a product you are thinking of getting from them. Shoot them an email and you will have a response in a day or two.

Re: Transmission swap

Also try Parts Mike. They have rebuilt T-18's with the adaper installed for about $1200. Heard nothing but good stuff about them on this forum.
