Help 1979 Jeep CJ7 304 stalls

I have a 1979 cj7 w/304. It stops running while traveling at speed of 40+ about once per week. I usually pull over by depressing the clutch and stopping the vehicle.I can restart the jeep by cranking using the ignition switch and then driving off.
Yesterday, I released the clutch in 3rd gear at about 45mph and it backfired. It was severe enough that the driver side muffler is leaking at the crimping. Mufflers were installed last week.
Can someone give me some insight to electrical connection or carburation issues.

That sure sounds like an ignition module is breaking down. That's the aluminum box with the wires going into it over on the LH side of the engine compartment.

Find a buddy with a Jeep close by and swap used for used first.
